The Society of Women Artists Open Exhibition 2022

I’m delighted that my painting “The Boy Before the Man” has been selected for this year’s SWA 161st annual open exhibition at  The Mall Galleries  London. The exhibition will be opened on the 7th September by the Society’s patron, HRH Princess Michael of Kent. It runs until the 11th September.  See their website here:  The Society of Women Artists

This is my interpretation of a very degraded 35mm colour slide taken of my husband by his father many years ago. It’s a work in oils with cold wax medium on a cradled birch panel.

I’m always intrigued to see which characteristics change as we age, such as hair colour, and which remain, for example, expressions.  The background is a vague nod to hills and holidays softened by memory.  In this piece, I used knives and rollers as well as brushes to vary the textures. You can see a little of the process on my Instagram reels. The painting is framed, about 38 x 30 x 6cm and will be available to buy from their website.
