I’m delighted that my painting “The Boy Before the Man” has been selected for this year’s SWA 161st annual open exhibition at The Mall Galleries London. This is my interpretation of a very degraded 35mm colour slide taken of my husband by his father many years ago. It’s a work in oils with cold wax medium on a cradled birch panel.
I’m always intrigued to see which characteristics change as we age, such as hair colour, and which remain, for example, expressions. The background is a vague nod to hills and holidays softened by memory. In this piece, I used knives and rollers as well as brushes to vary the textures.
